Good can only get Better!!

My grandma, Marie Branum, was teasing me about bringing my own alcohol and mixing drinks at her house, but got a good kick out of it too. She's almost 98 and has the best sense of humor. That is a picture of her and I.

As I mixed drinks and asked who wanted some, they got excited about it quickly. "Old People are easily excited," as I quote by my Auntie Madeline.

After a stifling, hot Minnesota couple of days, my out-of-town relatives didn't think twice to partake in a mini margarita party. I served up the Margarita Madras and the Margarita Bay Breeze. They were delectable and ice cold. The margarita madras had cranberry juice and orange juice, while the bay breeze substituted the OJ for pineapple juice. Most of the people that tried them liked both, and only my mother liked the pineapple juice flavor better. It was a little sweeter. I liked 'em both!!!! I WILL be making them again, not to mention such a simple recipe.

Thank you to all my relatives who cheers with me today! I hope we can do it again soon.

Family & Margaritas

Family Reunion time is a great time for margaritas! We welcomed several family members from Chicago, Illinois as well as Los Angeles, California. I made the Island Margarita consisting of both papaya and guava juices. It was a light, crisp, and beautiful summery/ beachy drink. I shared it with everyone who wanted some, umbrella included. They seemed to enjoy it as much as I did. The glasses were empty too quickly for a photo. Cheers until tomorrow.

Apricot... the forgotten fruit

Sippin' away at my Apricot Margarita, watching a "documentary" (that shall remain nameless), laundry, and attempting to stay awake... that is one busy night. I FINALLY got my patron infusing with pomegranate seeds, fresh from an actual pomegranate. That will infuse now for a full month, just in the knick-of-time for labor day.

The apricot margarita is pretty decent. People who know me, know that I appreciate a good apricot brandy though! This is a very nice fruity margarita, but it's not overly fruit like a lot of the other margs in the book.

More work to do, and more drinks to prepare! But only 34 margaritas left!

Aphrodisiac my ass!

Don't ask WHY exactly I was drinking the aphrodisiac margarita with my brother-in-law!! But it wasn't good at all. We might as well have just taken a shot of B & B liquor and tequila. We took but a sip, and that was it... sorry for the lame post this evening! Happy drinking this weekend.

35 to go!

Swim Up Bar???

My brother-in-law and I shared margaritas by the pool. Ahhh.... a record breaking dew point today reaching 124!! "It's the perfect day for the pool" says Tom.

We drank the Fuzzy Margarita by (and in) the pool. Sugared rim and everything! It was a perfect play on the peach/beach feel we were going for. We obviously enjoyed the chill of the margarita for the fact that we remade the recipe several times and even brought a little shaker by the pool for a quick/ simple refill. I didn't know there were any swim up bars in Minnesota, but I guess I was wrong. There is one in the backyard at the Moravec residence!

65 Margaritas down! 36 to go! Wow... I just impressed myself! Cheers until tomorrow!

Margarita Monday!

The fruit infusions are amazing! After a heat index of 113 today in the glorious state of Minnesota, the Melon Margarita Infusion and the Berry-Infused Margarita hit the spot... every sweaty spot! I had infused two jars of tequila overnight and attempted to sip them over ice tonight, however, I am not a tequila sipper. I added just a hint of sour to make it a much more enjoyable drink after all. I'm not sure which is my favorite. I may have to try them again tomorrow! I may become a sipper after all!

Blender Bender: Part 2

Cantaloupe Margarita was not my favorite, however, it was worth the try. I'm going to continue my blender bender with one more recipe added to my weekend... totaling 5 margaritas for this weekend. I needed to play catch up and that is exactly what I did! Not only did I make my margaritas for today, but I prepared my fruit/ tequila infusions for tomorrow! I balled a melon (that's what she said) to soak that in white tequila, then I filled a jar with strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries and also added white tequila. Those infusions are for tomorrow on a little blog entitled Margarita Monday.

As I tried to think of words to describe the Old Fashioned Margarita, I realized, that it must have been good ... going, going, going. You can't really go wrong with bing cherries, orange slices, and lime! I love my lime!

I'm finally "feeling the burn" to all these margaritas in pounds, expense, and also sheer effort. I will never seize on one of my goals, however, I will push through to the end. People ask me, "are you sick of tequila yet?" My answer in May was "NEVER!!!" My answer in June was, "not yet, but I think I might when this is all over." In July... "I'm getting there!"

Two more down... and several more to go! Cheers until tomorrow!

Blender Bender

Today, my friend, Nick, and I enjoyed the Blueberry Margarita, the Peaches-n-Cream Margarita, and the Tequila Cobbler. That makes number 58, 59, & 60!! Only 41 more to go! Pregnant Jamie, only enjoyed the first two as non-alcoholic drinks, but I didn't know how to make the tequila cobbler without alcohol, then again it was just fruit and tequila.

High of 90 degrees and 87% humidity, a wonderful day to go on a margarita blender bender! Each drink had a ton of flavor and cold, cool bliss! The blueberry margarita with cointreau and tequila cooled us all off quite quickly. The peaches-n-cream tasted like it should be some sort of dessert. And the tequila cobbler... yummy!! Cheers until tomorrow when the Blender Bender continues!

What do you get ...??

What do you get when you put some of my favorite things together???

Hint #1: It's sinful and delicious!
Hint #2: It includes Patron
Hint #3: It includes Coronas
Hint #4: It also includes simple syrup and Cointreau!

That's right, it's the Lagerita! Celebrating absolutely nothing except for the single life and margarita number 57 out of 101, I am sipping on my new favorite margaritas from my recipe book. I REALLY didn't want to go to the grocery store, so there weren't many drinks I could have made tonight. I used whatever I could for just one more marg before I really needed to go shopping. With no guilt in drinking alone, I grabbed my glass and relaxed with a new book. I thought I'd pause to blog. I just realized that while I type, my drink was on the wrong side of my bed. (Yes, I'm sitting in bed, typing, drinking, and previously reading) There, I moved it to the right side now. I am definitely going to regret purchasing such a small bottle of Patron. I am going to love it too much and I won't be able to afford it. But oh well... we'll figure that out as time comes.

Cheers!

I got the Blues at the Blair's

Let me paint you a picture. It's 67 degrees on a cool July evening. I'm sitting near the grill with friends, Jackie and Max, enjoying good company, good food, and great margaritas. Max was excited to drink the blue drinks with me per his request. He is a big fan of blue curacao and so we made two drinks just for him. I made the Blue Margarita while he made the Dirty Margarita. Although very different in flavors, they were both amazing. We had two of each!!! These may be my new top favorites, I'm not sure. The verdict is still out.
Woopsie! There's a funny story to go with this. I allowed Max to make the dirty margarita and he somehow forgot the tequila. There was still Midori and Blue Curacao in it, but it was a nice calm between the drinks. I'll, let my friends share their experiences.

Max says, “ahhh. They were fantastic. The blue curacao was my favorite until I had the dirty margarita (even without the tequila).”

“I think the blue curacao drink has potential. I liked the dirty margarita" - Jackie Blair

They unanimously agreed that they'd make these recipes again. To quote Max, “Maybe in about 20 minutes”

Apple Margarita

Tonight was Apple Margarita night! It was a little too strong for my taste. However, it was good, very sour, but crisp and cold~ It wasn't anything special for me, nor am I sure if I'd make that one again. I've had recipes that I liked much more in the recipe book, so I'll be repeating those! Cheers until tomorrow!

54 Down! 47 to Go! 45 after tomorrow night ;)

Relaxation!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh..... Kiwi good... Tequila good... Sunshine good... High of 89 degrees today and a margarita is the perfect way to relax after a long couple of days in the heat. My body aches, my eyes are burning, but there is nothing like sitting on my butt FINALLY and sipping the Kiwi Margarita!

I'm a tad bit behind this week on my margarita schedule, which only means I'll have to have a very busy upcoming week. The Kiwi Margarita is very good, however it's nothing special. I think it's just yet another fruity margarita.

I've been getting tips from family and friends about making margaritas. Once I'm done with the book and following the recipes exactly, I'll be experimenting with my own recipes with all my left over alcohol. Here is one tip I received... "At one of the tequila tastings I was at last week I picked up a good margarita tip and thought of you. --make icecubes out of fruit juice and use them in blended margs so your drink won't get watered down." -Tricia Bartkey

Cheers until tomorrow!

Peach Margarita

Man, summer is really kicking my ass! There is nothing like running home because I forgot something, then head right back out to softball, then rushing home because you HAVE TO squeeze a margarita into your day somehow! Thank god for the night owls of the world or I'd never be able to do this. After another pitiful loss at softball, we all deserve a drink. However, tonight, I'm drinking solo. Already in my pajamas, I am really enjoying the Peach Margarita. I've never really been a fan of peach schnapps, even though I guess I've had it before. It is delightful and fruity. I can definitely see any man calling it a pinky-up drink! That's a new term to the blog, but it works. If the sun were still up, I could see myself heading back into that Midori minute where I could lose myself in sheer happiness, but not quite there.

If it weren't for a job and a social life, I could have another one of these margaritas right now. However, that is not the case. I do have to get up in a only a handful of hours, and repeat this whole day all over again! I'm not sure what margarita will come tomorrow or the next day, but I know, it'll be good.

Raspberries and Rainbows

Tonight was the perfect example of a Midwest summer thunderstorm! There was flashes of lightening, booming thunder, pouring rain, then sunshine and rainbows. The picture doesn't do that rainbow justice (I was too slow at making my drink). I had raspberries left over from my Berries Jubilee Margarita, so I made the Raspberry Margarita. It was very good. Fresh raspberries and Patron make for a delightful Tuesday night in Julie's world.

51 Down!!! 50 to go! I'm gonna make it!

Happy 4th of July

It's finally summer-like weather!! It's the most beautiful weather for the Berries Jubilee Margarita! It is a perfect July 4th, and to help me celebrate, I have fresh strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries in a cold, blended drink. Perfect for poolside!

The pictures will describe the "Going, Going, Gone" of the day! A little bit of before and after action photos!

This margarita symbolizes the 50th margarita! I have successfully had 50 margaritas since May 7th. I'm pretty proud of myself that I'm stayed on track and have completed at least half of my goal. I am also super excited about completing the other half of my recipes.

Happy Independence Day on this beautiful 88-degree day to all and Cheers until tomorrow!
